Porto Katsiki

The queen of Lefkada's beaches, below the white cliff

Moderately accessibleSand and pebbles

Lefkada's most famous beach, Porto Katsiki impresses with its vertical white cliff dropping into spectacular turquoise water. You reach it down a built stairway, and the view from the parking area above is among the most photographed in Greece.

The view from the top

Before you head down, stop at the edge of the cliff. From here opens the image that made the beach famous: the white limestone wall arching over water of an almost unreal turquoise. It's one of the most photographed places in Greece, so give yourself a few minutes just for the view.

The stairway down

From the parking area a built stairway, cut into the slope, takes you straight to the beach. Going down is easy; coming back up at midday you'll feel it. Bring water and a hat, and in high season come in the morning, when the steps are free and the light on the cliff is at its best.

The water below the cliff

Down below waits a strip of sand and fine pebbles, with a quick drop into deep, clear, cool water. In the morning the cliff shades part of the beach; in the afternoon the sun comes in full from the sea. Currents are gentle on calm days, but respect the sea when it's windy.

Practical tips

Up top you'll find a few kiosks with water and snacks; down on the beach there's almost nothing, so come prepared. In summer you can also arrive by boat from Vasiliki or Nidri, and in September the beach empties out and becomes, perhaps, the most beautiful version of itself.

How to get there

By car from Lefkada, about 40 min towards Athani; parking at the top and a built stairway down. In summer you can also arrive by boat from Vasiliki or Nidri.
