Egremni
White sand and sapphire water, hidden below steep cliffs
Egremni is one of the most spectacular beaches in Greece, with fine white sand and intensely blue water. After the 2015 landslide, land access remains generally closed and the beach is visited almost exclusively by boat, which makes it all the wilder.
A beach you have to earn
Egremni is not a beach you visit in passing. Kilometres of white sand, a sapphire-blue sea and steep cliffs sealing it off from the land: the beach remains one of the most spectacular in Greece precisely because reaching it takes a little effort.
The 2015 earthquake
The 2015 landslide reshaped the beach and closed the old access stairway from Athani. Since then, Egremni is reached almost exclusively by boat, and the absence of crowds has preserved its wild, newly-discovered feel.
By boat from Vasiliki or Nidri
In summer, day cruises and water taxis stop here for an hour or two, enough to swim in the deep, incredibly clear water and walk the white sand. Keep the return time in mind: the beach has no other way out.
What to bring
There are no sunbeds, bars or natural shade on Egremni. Water, an umbrella and comfortable shoes are all you need for a few hours on one of the most beautiful beaches of the Ionian.
How to get there
Almost exclusively by boat from Vasiliki or Nidri after the 2015 landslide; the access stairway from Athani is usually closed.
