Kalamitsi

Sand and pebbles below the hilltop village

Moderately accessibleSand and pebbles

Kalamitsi beach stretches below the village of the same name, with sand, fine pebbles and clear, open water. It is less crowded than the big western beaches and offers a few facilities in a typical west-coast landscape.

Below the hilltop village

The beach spreads out at the foot of Kalamitsi, the village perched on the slope among olive trees. The road descends in hairpins to the shore, and from above you can see the whole ribbon of sand and pebbles with the open water of the west coast beyond.

Kalamitsi village

It's worth climbing back up to the village before sunset: narrow lanes, traditional houses and tavernas with terraces looking out to sea. It's one of the island's most authentic village-and-beach combinations.

The beach itself

Sand mixed with fine pebbles, clear water that deepens quickly and far fewer people than on the big neighbouring beaches. A few umbrellas and a summer bar cover the essentials; the rest is sea and quiet.

How to get there

By car from Lefkada, about 30 min to Kalamitsi village; then a downhill road to the beach.
