Vasiliki bay is the capital of windsurfing in Greece, with thermal winds that pick up in the afternoon to 15–25 knots. In the morning the water is calm, ideal for beginners, and the local schools offer courses and equipment rental for all levels.
Why Vasiliki
Vasiliki bay has a rare geography: the mountains behind heat the air which, in the afternoon, drops towards the sea and creates the thermal wind known locally as Eric, steady day after day. That's why the bay is considered one of the best windsurf spots in Europe.
Mornings, for beginners
Until noon the water is like a mirror and the wind is gentle. It's the perfect window for a first lesson: the beach schools have equipment for children and adults and English-speaking instructors.
Afternoons, for the advanced
From around one o'clock, Eric picks up to 15 to 25 knots and the bay fills with sails. Experienced riders rent a board and head out to sea, where the side wind keeps the boards planing for hours.
